Spray Tan Tips
Before Your Spray Tan:
- Exfoliate Gently: Use a cotton washcloth to exfoliate your skin the day before your spray tan. This will help remove dead skin cells for a smoother, longer-lasting tan.
- Shave & Prep: Shave and schedule any spa treatments (like waxing or facials) before your spray tan appointment. It’s best to do these 24-48 hours in advance to avoid irritation.
- No Moisturizer: Avoid applying any lotions, creams, or oils on the day of your spray tan, both before and after. Moisturizers can create a barrier that prevents the tan from developing properly.
- Wear Old Underwear: Choose old or dark-colored underwear for your session, as tan may transfer. Anything from granny panties to a g-string is fine.
- Dress Comfortably: Opt for loose, dark, slip-on clothes and shoes. Tight clothing can cause friction and uneven fading, so it’s important to let your tan settle.
- Strapless Option: If it’s appropriate for your appointment, consider wearing a strapless bra or bikini top to ensure an even tan without tan lines.
After Your Spray Tan:
- Stay Dry for 12 Hours: For the best results, avoid getting wet for at least 12 hours after your spray tan. This includes sweating, swimming, and showering.
- Shower Smart: When showering, use a sulfate-free body wash (we recommend Norvell Cleanser) to preserve your tan. Take short, warm showers and gently pat your skin dry with a towel. Avoid rubbing your skin, as it can cause streaking.
- Moisturize Daily: Start moisturizing at least every other day after your first shower post-spray tan. This helps maintain your tan and keeps your skin hydrated.
- Extend Your Tan: For the best results and to extend the life of your spray tan, use TWK Self-Tanner & Anti-Aging Retail Spray after your tan.
- Fragrance Tips: Spray perfume or cologne on your clothes or the back of your hairline—avoid applying directly to your skin, as the alcohol in perfumes can dry out the tan and cause blotchiness.
Additional Tips:
- Stay Active? Use Powder: If you're someone who works out or wears gear like sports bras or shin guards, try using powder to help absorb moisture and prevent your tan from fading in those areas.
- Hydrate: Drinking plenty of water is essential for maintaining your tan and helping it fade evenly over time.
- Choose Activities Wisely: Remember that a spray tan is like a layer of “paint” on your skin. Activities that cause excessive sweating or friction can affect how your tan wears, so plan accordingly.
- No Scrubbing: Avoid using sugar or salt scrubs, loofahs, or exfoliating mitts before your spray tan. After your tan, use a soft washcloth to remove any color, not a loofah, to avoid uneven fading.
